Hardly do I ever utter the names of other deities, but Jesus Christ that’s a mouthful, isn’t it? As my collaborator (and mother-in-law) would often say (in good humor), “Oh, okay. Why do we care?”

Let me tell you. (Oh, and also – don’t put your crystals out tonight)

From a linear, scientific standpoint: A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon line up so perfectly that what would normally appear to be a full, bright moon ends up looking like a ring of light because the Earth is in the direct path of the sun’s rays, blocking a full illumination of the Moon, yet having just enough light creep through to cause the very outer edges of the Moon to glow. When the light interacts with the Earth’s atmosphere in this way, the light infiltrating the gases can cause the Moon to take on a reddish tint (the ‘blood’ moon). There are 4 to 7 eclipses every year and typically two eclipse ‘seasons.’ 2021 is slated to have 4 eclipses total – 2 lunar & 2 solar.

Now, what does it mean from an energetic standpoint?

So, listen. The Moon has a measured, observable influence on the Earth’s ocean tides. It’s not exactly out of the realm of possibility that it could have an influence on us as well, as we’re composed of up to 60% water (the brain & heart being composed of 73% water and the lungs upward of 83% water). I believe that the Moon is quite impactful on us. When the Moon is eclipsed, it gives you the opportunity to release deep wounds, long-held traumas, move beyond old fears, and to transcend negative personality traits or patterns. It’s a really intense, powerful time to do inner and releasing work. Anything released during an eclipse tends to be permanent – so if you’re really, really ready to let something go – it’s time.

This particularly super-charged moon is in the sign of Sagittarius at the time of the eclipse, meaning that it’s all about transforming your mindset. Sagittarius is the philosopher of the zodiac – traveling far and wide to learn as many things as they can with an extremely open mind. Boundaries and limitations barely exist for a Sagittarian’s mind, as they tend to always be looking for a way to break through. What do you need to release that has to do with limitations, outdated beliefs or systems, or blockages to your own expansion and growth?

To harness this energy and use it for a powerful release, you’ll have to be dedicated and sacrifice a little sleep (but way worth it): For us here in Northwest Indiana, the eclipse will begin at 4:44 AM CST. Its maximum peak will hit at 5:21 AM. It will begin to set at 5:25 AM and end completely at 6:25 AM.

Oh, and don’t put your crystals out tonight – because the Moon will not be illuminated by the Sun, instead of giving your crystals energy, it will have the opposite effect – it’s likely to drain and release their energies.

This is powerful. Really powerful. I’m not an early riser whatsoever. But you can bet my alarm is set for 4:30 tomorrow morning.
